Water is simplest way to improve your health, but is often overlooked by most. Making changes to ones diet can be difficult, so it’s best to start with something simple to begin building momentum. Check out these simple tips and tricks to drink more clean water.
The human body is made of approximately 60% water, and most people don’t consider the implications water has on our overall health. What is your source for water? For most people it is city municipal water, which needs to be filtered. Unfortunately, most water filter systems sold in stores will not remove all of the chemicals in your water. Approximately 72% of cities in the United States add the chemical Fluoride, scientifically known as Hydrofluoric acid (HF) to the public drinking water. A recent Harvard Study which was actually a compilation of 27 previous studies showed clear evidence that Fluoride (Hydrofluoric Acid) increases your risk of cancer and lowers your IQ. City water treatment facilities use Chlorine to control microbes, odors, and taste which also has negative health effects including, but not limited too increased cancer risk, liver problems, and skin rashes ect. City water has also been known to contain pharmaceuticals like Prozac and other chemical run off. It is critical to filter your municipal water before you drink or cook with it.
There are many great filters on the market depending on your needs. If your filtering water from lakes, rivers, and streams the Katadyn filter system is great as well as the LifeStraw for a temporary solution. If your only source for water is from a municipal source, than it most likely contains fluoride and chlorine. Fluoride is a very small chemical and requires expensive filter systems like Propur or Berkey to remove it properly. One must also consider the implications of fluoride and chlorine on the skin and in the lungs. When you take a hot shower the water turns to vapor and you breath in that vapor which contains fluoride and chlorine. In order to remove these chemicals from your water you must filter it with a whole house filter or filter on your shower head. Pure Water Freedom makes a whole house water filter system that I use on my home.
Apple Cider Vinegar
I prefer to mix 1oz of apple cider vinegar with approximately 40oz of water. Considered a miracle drink by some, apple cider vinegar has amazing natural cleansing, healing, and energizing health qualities. My favorite brand is Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar.
Lemon or Lime
Cut a lemon or lime in half, squeeze one half of the lemon into approximately 40oz of water. Lemon has a cleansing effect on the body.
Reverse Osmosis Water Filter
In a perfect world, the best water for overall health is natural spring water in a secluded location free from pollution and contamination. We have a great natural spring on Hwy 26 that is often packed with people filling up giant water containers for personal consumption. Storing water in glass bottles is preferred; if you must use plastic buy only BPA free. An easy way to cut out sugary drinks from your diet is to start drinking 50-100 ounces of water a day.
If you are an avid drinker of sugary drinks kicking the habit and drinking plain water might be a difficult transition for you to make. One solution is to invigorate your water to improve the taste and the benefits. Try adding the following things to your water.
Aloe Vera Juice
Add 1 ounce of concentrated Aloe Vera Juice to your drink. Aloe Vera can help reduce stress levels and improve your skin. Aloe Vera has been shown to have 74 remarkable nutrients and as early as 1500 B.C. the ancient Egyptians used Aloe Vera for treating infections and burns.
Himalayan Crystal Salt
In David Wolfe’s book Eating for Beauty he claims that adding a pinch of Himalayan Crystal Salt to your water will “re-energize” it after it has been filtered.
Beyond Tangy Tangerine 2.0
Beyond Tangy Tangerine 2.0 is my favorite way to invigorate my water! I usually wake up and drink about 40oz of lemon water. Drinking a large amount of water right when you wake up helps kick start your metabolism and re-hydrates your body. I then I fill my 40oz metal canteen with filtered water, 2 scoops of BTT 2.0, ½ squeezed lemon, and 1 ounce of Brags Apple Cider Vinegar. This mix tastes great and is also very healthy.
Water is the simplest way to take back control of your health. It takes effort to only drink clean water, but in my opinion it’s worth it. Starting today, make it a priority to drink only clean or filtered water.
