Most people know to drink water, but exactly how much water does your body need?  Studies show the average adult needs at least 10 cups of water per day to stay properly hydrated. Doctors estimate up to 75% of Americans suffer from chronic dehydration.  Chronic dehydration can have many negative effects on your body including acne, longer hangovers, and bags under your eyes.  The simplest way to improve your health and the way you feel is to drink more pure or filtered water.

The human body is made up of approximately 60% water, but most people don’t think about the health impacts of not drinking enough.  Water is the lubricant or oil that helps your organs and brain function properly.  Drinks like coffee or soda do not properly hydrate the body and can even take extra water to digest properly.  I hear a lot of people complain they don’t like the taste of water but that can be easily improved by adding flavor from lemons, apple cider vinegar, or Beyond Tangy Tangerine 2.0.  The biggest thing the average person can do to improve their health is to drink more pure or filtered water.  Soma created a great infographic showing the effects on your body from not drinking enough water.

Soma’s infographic explains that not drinking enough water can cause acne, increased hangover recovery time, painful sunburns, dry or red nose, and bags under your eyes.  The benefits of being properly hydrated include healthier scalp, improved hair, stronger nails, clear bright eyes, weight loss, and smooth wrinkle free skin.  Grace Webb the Assistant Director for Clinical Nutrition at New York Hospital has the following remarks about water and the body.

“People just think that when they start to get a little weak or they have a headache, they need to eat something, but most often they need to drink,
Water is necessary for the body to digest and absorb vitamins and nutrients. It’s also key to proper digestion; it detoxifies the liver and kidneys, and carries waste away. If your urine becomes darkly colored like this, we’re dehydrated. The urine should be light, straw colored,” Webb Explained.

Are you drinking enough water?  Like most people I was drinking too much coffee and other sugary drinks that left my body in a constant state of dehydration.  Drinking 10 or more glasses of water a day is challenging, but the benefits are worth the effort.  Now that my body is properly hydrated I’ve noticed a different in my skin and the way I feel.  Moving from a state of constant dehydration to being properly hydrated gives me more energy and a slight “natural high” that feels amazing.  If you want more tips and tricks to drinking more water follow my link below.
